The Empty Child 2

Feedback for my first Empty Child cover inspired me to try again. I had to start from scratch, and couldn't find my original background, but I think I prefer this one, as it depicts the Thames, which clearly signposts the London setting. The concentric circles were supposed to be a lighter turquoise to contrast with the dullness of the cover, but for some reason it cut through the text instead. An accident, but I think it works well.

The Empty Child - 2nd Attempt

The Empty Child Mark 2

I wasn't very satisfied with my first attempt at a cover for The Empty Child; I knew it was dull in tone and colour, and thought that it was appropriate given the world war 2 setting. However, it needed something extra to cheer it up a bit, so I've added some Chula Nanogenes :)

Cover 14: The Empty Child

Episodes 1 - 9 Mock Up

Here's what my new series DVD covers would look like if placed on a shelf. I need to work on placing/ sizing the 2|Entertain logo, but otherwise I'm happy :)

Father's Day Reimagined

For Father's Day, I had to completely redo the cover, starting from scratch. The background of the Reaper's vision from the episode works better than the previous cover I feel, I twisted the middle slightly which gives a good effect. A friend of mine suggested using a triangle to frame the images instead of a circle, and I am pleased with the result. You can view his blog here: www.sw6969.blogspot.co.uk

Father's Day Art (WIP)

Here's what I am working on for my new Father's Day cover. I'm just wondering how to tie all the images together, a circle would be the obvious answer, but it is proving awkward to insert.

The Long Game Again

In order to apply the new template to my cover for The Long Game, I had to rearrange the cover art just as I had to for "Dalek", so I took the opportunity to add a picture of Adam and increase the size of Satellite 5. I couldn't find the consumer advice or classification, so I classified it PG and added some likely consumer advice about the episode.

Dalek.2

To apply the new template to Dalek, I had to rejig the cover several times, rearranging the circles to fit with the rating etc on the front. Again, I searched the web for the BBFC rating for this episode plus the consumer advice :)

Rose revisited

A few tweaks to the Rose cover, with new template applied. Also the BBFC rating and consumer advice on the back is the official advice from the BBFC's website :)

Cover 13: The Unquiet Dead

I had a bit of trouble with this one, specifically with the lack of good quality images available for use on the front cover, especially strange for a new series episode that is so loved! I hope I have done it justice, I saw it for the first time a couple of weeks ago and loved it :)

Aliens of London (Updated)

Much better than the first attempt I think :)

The End of the World (Updated)

I have been tweaking my DVD templates, and have decided to update my covers using it so that they all look uniform. I wanted to start with The End of the World, because I wanted to improve upon my original attempt. I am pleased to say I feel I succeeded :)

Cover 11: The Long Game

I am currently in bed with a bad cold right now, but I have decided to use this time to get another cover done. Here is my take on The Long Game.

Rose Update

Having scoured the internet to see what I could include on a Dvd of "Rose", I have updated my cover for Rose to reflect the special features I have found. These include: "A New Dimension" - the special broadcast before Rose in 2005, Doctor Who Confidential Series 1 Episode 1, the Series 1 Trailer, and the continuity announcement for the episode itself.

Cover 10: Dalek

This has to be my favourite cover so far, it was difficult but fun to produce.

Aliens of London/ World War 3

Here is my latest cover. I realise I have not done The Unquiet Dead yet. The main reason for this is that I havent seen it yet (gasp!) I will watch it then create a cover for it :)

The effects used on this cover are very simple, and I was going to add more drop shadows, maybe a supernova effect, but decided against it when I tested this image in the DVD template. Hard to do so impossible to include were also the image of Big Ben, with and without the spaceship crashing into it.

Cover 8: The End of the World

I had fun with this cover! Lots of interesting images to choose from. I intended to include the adherents of the repeated meme, and 2 staff from Platform one flanking Jabe, or failing that, the other 2 trees. From the images I found useful, I decided to use the Moxx of Balhoon, who is brilliantly alien!

Cover 7: Rose

I had a particularly hard time deciding what sort of layout this cover should have, and hope that by not going too OTT I have done it justice. I gave "The Eccleston Years" as 2004 - 05 because I wanted the cover to fit in with existing classic covers, and because 2004 is when Chris was announced as The Ninth Doctor.

The blurb on the back is completely my own, I could not find a long enough synopsis on the internet and have noticed that other covers include these short versions. As I wanted this to fit in with the classic DVDs I decided to write my own.

Cover 6: The Macra Terror & Imandix

I'm not completely happy with this cover, but based on the trouble it took to make, I am satisfied that it is the best I have produced so far. I finally learned how to colourise images and produce concentric circles, something utilised in many of the official BBC releases.

I now have Imandix, so I can finally see what my covers would look like on a case :)

The Macra Terror (Work In Progress)

So happy with the cover I am working on, I am posting it so a friend of mine can see what I've been up to ;)

Macra Art 2 (Work In Progress)

I intend to attempt the cover again, colourising this porthole image as a starting point. I'm not sure where it will lead. Maybe I'll try and do a cover where this is the centre image, and there is less colour the farther away you get from this image? I really don't know, this could go anywhere!

One thing I have to do is work out how to colour something silver, as I don't just want to leave it black and white.

The Macra Terror Art

I'm having a little bit of trouble with the cover I am currently working on, for The Macra Terror, and might have to start from scratch. The main issue I have with the current design is that it won't scale to fit the front cover effectively, so a new approach is needed. However, I am uploading the main section of the cover because I am pleased with it, especially my first attempt at colourisation, which is for the controller Macra :)

Cover 4: The Abominable Snowmen (2)

I downloaded Gimp last night, what an amzing program! I immediately set about redoing my cover for The Abominable Snowmen, and I personally think this one is miles better. The variety of effects I was able to apply were fun to experiment with, and I will definately be using Gimp to do covers in future.

I also used a template of text sizes and positions on the official covers, in order to make my covers a bit more authentic. I hope it works for you :)

the only problem being with this cover is the yeti I used for the front. I love the pose, but this particular Yeti came without feet, so I stuck it behind a rock.
